My name is Parker Cherry and I didn’t go to College to learn about design, marketing or sales!

I started my first business in high school shortly after I discovered graphic-design. It was a clothing brand and it was very successful in my hometown of Odessa, Texas. It was popular with kids from all over the city and it helped me raise thousands of dollars for charities (it even got featured on BET). However, once I moved to Dallas, for my own version of “college” I read The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding and my beloved clothing brand hit the back-burner.

I realized that I had much to learn about myself and even more to learn about business. So I drove around my new home delivering food with Uber Eats and listening to audiobooks about personal-branding, product-design, service-sales, content-marketing, eastern-philosophy, etc. I read pretty much anything that was highly-regarded in the categories of self-development and business (but I only listed the ones that I think you’d benefit from the most down below).

Eventually my car needed a break and so did I, it was very stressful taking notes, getting in and out, dealing with melted ice-cream and driving manual all at the same time, I needed something stable, so I got a job at Nordstrom. There, I got to test out the things I read in Dale Carnegie’s How To Win Friends & Influence People, it all worked.

Some people think i’m crazy for leaving the oil-field money in Odessa for the suit & tie money in Dallas, but I’ve wanted to be a designer ever since I could remember and while it’s been a rough 4 years (and still going), I wouldn’t change anything because I love this.

I’ve lost jobs, friends & money behind this business but i’ve gained experience, proof & clarity that all of the things i’ve read in the books (listed below) are useful and not snake oil.

If I knew what I know now whenever I started my clothing brand I probably wouldn’t have started this business, but i’m not mad at that because Design-Service is going to help a lot of people.

I went to work ..

and I read books.

So, do you like the idea?
